School of the Arts - Courses - ASC2018 - Cooking 101 (Grades 3-6)

Gibson School of the Arts Jr. Chef Program has two main objectives: to help kids learn beginning cooking principles and techniques, and to ensure they have fun doing it. Students will work in groups and get hands on experience in a lively and organized atmosphere. A boost of self confidence will be felt each day when students complete their recipes that will in turn ignite a passion for pleasing others with their creations.

Gibson School of the Arts Jr. Chef Program is in development. A variety of different culinary courses involving themes and focused skill sets are in the works. The 'Cooking 101' course is recommended before taking other courses within the program. New courses involving new skills and various culinary themes are always in development so keep checking the website for what is coming up next!

Cooking 101 - Kitchen Basics

The 'Cooking 101' course is a first step in opening up the world of the Culinary Arts for students at the Gibson School of the Arts. While preparing fun recipes, students will learn how to work safely in a kitchen while acquiring skills in following a recipe and basic measurement.

Every child should have the opportunity to get into the kitchen and cook. Cooking is a valuable life skill that sets us up for healthy eating habits and helps to foster their creativity. This class is all about letting kids taste, smell and explore ingredients. Often in a safe, new environment even the pickiest of eaters will explore and try new foods.

**Please remember to send your little chef to class with close-toed shoes!**

**Please note, no cooking experience required. A safety waiver, additional to our required medical form, needs to be signed before students attend this class and full disclosure of all food allergies is of the utmost importance.**

This is a class for students in Grades 3-6.

Starting at $225 for the Fall Term, sign up for Fall and Winter Terms together (by no later than October 15th 2018) and get a discount!

Fall Term: $225.00 (8 weeks of classes)
Winter Term: $450.00 (16 weeks of classes)
Winter Term Discount: $400.00 (16 weeks of classes)

**Includes all course materials, supplies and groceries for this 2 hour class. This course is not a replacement for dinner, food quantities will depend on recipes being made**

GSOTA FALL GALA 2018
All students participating in this class will be able to showcase their work at our GSOTA FALL GALA on Friday November 9th 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. All Fall Term students will present their work in an exciting GALA that will utilize multiple areas of our beautiful Gibson Centre. Details for the students' performance expectations and times will be sent home in a confirmation document at the beginning of the course. This event will be FREE for students and parents alike!

GSOTA YEAR-END GALA 2019
All students participating in the Winter Term class will be able to showcase their work at our GSOTA YEAR-END GALA on Friday May 31st from 5:00pm-7:00pm. All students will present their work in a Formal GALA that will utilize the main floor of our beautiful Gibson Centre. Semi-Formal attire and attention to detail will elevate this year-end presentation from our students! Details for the students' performance expectations, times and ticket sales will be sent home at the half-way mark of the Winter Term.
