Feel Good - Body & Mind

Class Description:

According to the Ontario Curriculum for Health & Physical Education (2019) for Grades 1-8, Social-emotional learning skills are those skills that foster overall health and well being, positive mental health, and the ability to learn, build resilience, and thrive.

The Gibson School of the Arts Yoga & Mindfulness Program is designed and delivered to address the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of students, and their sense of self.

Through interactive play and discovery based learning, children learn how to build on the foundations of Self-Regulation and Well-Being, which includes learning about healthy active living and its effects on the mind and body.

Building important skills, knowledge and awareness around the self including a sense of community, leadership, belonging and contributing.

Physical activities are grounded in Yoga principles around movement, breath, concentration, balance, while encouraging child-initiated individual expression by providing opportunities for explorative child-directed activities and imaginative play.

Cognitive activities are grounded in principles around Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness, and are aimed to help the child identify, understand, express in a healthy manner, and self regulate their emotions.
