Water and Skye, Solo Exhibition by Artist, Brenda Sharpe
Venue – The Gibson Cultural Centre
What art offers is space – a certain breathing room for the spirit.
Art can open our understanding of the physical world, capturing life as it happens. Past is past, but, the artist can re-create intimate moments of wonder and awe. The act of looking moves us into what the eye sees and how the senses and brain respond. It strengthens our understanding of other people and cultures. Art is a response, a pause, an excitement, a quiet place, pain, joy and sometimes an indescribable territory, that is our own. We layer these experiences on our humanity to share and enrich our lives with others.
The body of this work was inspired by the soul of the seas, and vastness of the skies in my art travels in North America, Italy, France and Scotland.
Both plein air and studio paintings emerged with this singular theme. The paintings are in oil, using palette knife and brush techniques in combination of contemporary impressionism and realism.
